The AIM Academy’s next event is all about independent distribution. Taking place at the Interchange Triangle in Camden, this workshop and drinks reception is aimed at labels and self-releasing artists who want to understand the music supply chain from label to consumer. The event will empower attendees to distribute their music the right way for their company.
The workshop will run from 6-8pm followed by networking drinks with independent distributors and aggregators on Thursday 29th June, with sessions covering both physical and digital distribution, an overview of the market, and insights into how established labels distribute; arming attendees with all the basic knowledge they need to make effective decisions about their own distribution.

Overview of Distribution in the UK – Presentation by Chris Carey of Media Insight Consulting
Traditionally, the main way to get your music out to the many was through signing a record label deal and relying on their distribution services to do so. However, in the new music industry, there are many different ways to get your music to your fans while still remaining independent. Chris Carey, CEO of research company Media Insight Consulting, talks through the many different distribution options available to artists today, from international distributors like Tunecore and AWAL, all the way through to DIY & crowdfunding options like Music Glue and Pledge Music, and importantly, which option is right for you.
How established labels distribute – Panel discussion of AIM Member labels
As music consumption has evolved more and more from physical to digital, labels had to adapt their distribution. In this panel discussion, AIM member labels Beggars, Brownwood Recordings, Cherry Red and Killing Moon will discuss this change, pros and cons to different distribution models, problems in the world of distribution and why some labels still have their own physical manufacturing in house.
