“Grants are being used to fund such a wide range of activities in music: first EPs, songwriting sessions, music tuition, travel to international showcases and the creation of career-defining projects. Know when and how to use grants, and you’ll have a valuable tool your whole career.” – Remi Harris, MBE
Looking for funding, but don’t know where to turn? Or maybe you’ve applied but weren’t successful? Securing grants in the music industry is extremely competitive and can be overwhelming. Increase your chances of success with this informal half-day course covering the principles of funding at PPL’s offices on 25th September, 2pm-6pm.
Funding expert Remi Harris will offer guidance on writing compelling and well-targeted applications for those wanting to get grant funding for their artists or their company. Advice will address PRS Foundation, Arts Council and Music Export Growth Scheme (MEGS) funding. Successful applicants can receive thousands of pounds in support from these schemes.
AIM Members can attend this interactive workshop on 25th September for only £50+VAT (£60) and non-members for £80+VAT (£96). Trade body discounts are available. The workshop will be followed by a drink on us.
The course will cover how to pull together applications, step-by-step:
- Collect the resources you need
- Develop your concept
- How to structure your budget
- Create impact with your marketing plan
- Learn ways to make your project stand out from the competition
The highly interactive session provides opportunities throughout to ask questions, discuss and review examples.
To prepare, attendees are asked to have a look at the Project Grants area of their national arts council (Arts Council England, Arts Council of Wales, Creative Scotland, Arts Council of Northern Ireland), the PRS Foundation website and the Music Export Growth Scheme (MEGS) website to familiarise themselves with their schemes. You are also asked to think about a specific project or artist you are interested in developing a grant application for.
I recently attended Remi Harris’ AIM Academy workshop on Funding for music-based projects and, I have to say, it was excellent! I found the content to be in-depth, relevant and well explained. Remi has been there and done it, so it was really great to hear useful information relating to what I should think about when applying for funding through organisations such as Arts Council England and PRS Foundation. There were case studies, example budgets as well as useful tips and advice about potential pitfalls. On top of all that, Remi was charming and entertaining in the way that she delivered the workshop and engaged with participants. I would highly recommend this workshop to anyone who is considering applying for funding for their label or on behalf of artists, no matter what stage they’re at in the process! – Paul Oliver – Ganbei Records
“Remi gave an excellent workshop for the members of the Musicians’ Union. She discussed all the major funders and explained not only which funders to approach, but also how to approach them in a way that is relevant to your bid. She showed the members how to find these funders and access information on previous successful bids – essential for those new to bidding for grant funding. The feedback I received on the day and in subsequent emails from members was nothing but positive. I’d have no hesitation in both using her again for MU events and in recommending her to other people” – Jamie Pullman, Regional Officer at Musicians Union, East and South East England.
