13 Oct Pitchblack Playback x National Album Day – Powered by AIM & MQA

To celebrate the inaugural National Album Day, we are collaborating with Pitchblack Playback and MQA to curate an all-day, fully immersive listening event.

Pitchblack Playback allows audiences to listen to albums in the dark through high quality audio systems to experience the most visceral, powerful sound experience possible.

Audiences will be able to experience six critically acclaimed albums released by our members in the dark and through MQA audio, which delivers 100% of the original studio performance for the highest quality audio experience.

The six albums to be featured (in order of playback) are:

12:00 Mogwai – Every Country’s Sun [Rock Action Records]

13:25 Gil Scott-Heron – I’m New Here [XL Recordings]

14:20 The Fall – I Am Kurious Oranj (30th anniversary edition) [Beggars Banquet]

15:40 Public Service Broadcasting – The Race For Space [Test Card Recordings]

16:50 Young Fathers – Cocoa Sugar [Ninja Tune]

17:50 SOPHIE – OIL OF EVERY PEARL’S UN-INSIDES [Transgressive Records]

National Album Day 2018 takes place on Saturday 13th October with the entire British music community coming together to celebrate the UK’s love of the album.

Taking place on Saturday 13th October between 11.30am and 6pm in The Sensorium at Aures London, each album will form part of a unique listening experience for music fans.

This event is free to attend – full details and tickets, which are available on a first come first served basis, can be found here.

The Sensorium is a unique blank canvas event space within a seven-metre high exposed brick arch and over 2,000 square feet of floor space.  It features a groundbreaking 3D sound system with 50 speakers and 10 amplifiers, offering state of the art technology to fully enhance the listening experience.

J. Willgoose Esq (Public Service Broadcasting) said: “It’s great to be a part of National Album Day. As a band we put a lot of thought and effort into producing albums rather than isolated songs, and trying to use our music to tell stories. Giving fans the opportunity to experience our album The Race For Space in the dark, focusing on nothing but the music, is a great idea and we hope people get something out of it.”

Paul Pacifico, CEO of AIM, said: “As a partner of National Album Day 2018, we are excited to be curating an event that will celebrate amazing independent music in a unique format. With Pitchblack Playback and MQA, we are offering music fans the chance to experience seminal independent albums from start to finish in a uniquely immersive environment. The album remains a much-loved artform and we are delighted to be able to help highlight its continuing importance.”

Mike Jbara, CEO of MQA, said: “It’s inspiring to be involved in a project that puts artists and music fans at the centre of the experience. We’re proud to partner with AIM and Pitchblack Playback to deliver the ultimate listening event for National Album Day.”
