Play It Again Sam was part of a wave of influential labels that emerged during a fertile generation of European independents in the early eighties along with peers like Factory, Mute, Rough Trade and 4AD. Initially known for being one of the drivers behind the emergence of EBM and Industrial music, the label later broadened its musical horizon with releases by artists including Soulwax /2ManyDJ’s, Sigur Ros, Dinosaur Jr and Mogwai. Today Play It Again Sam is home to acts as diverse as Enter Shikari, Editors, Agnes Obel, Ghostpoet and CHAMPS.
1965 records was started 10 years ago in a Soho bar by James Endeacott and a bunch of merry pranksters. The idea was to be eclectic, eccentric and effervescent. The first few years saw releases by The View, Larry Jon Wilson, Toddla T and many others….the label rested for a couple of years and then resurrected itself in 2013 and continues to Unlock Your Mind with such varied artists as Lusts, Black Peaches, Raf Rundell, Man & The Echo and more…James is now held up by his partner in crime Mat Schneck – together they are a weight to be reckoned with and their ears are continually on fire.
The guest list is now open for AIM members and the independent music community. Entrance is free but a strict guest list will be in operation on the night, just click ‘Book Tickets’ to secure your place!
