British Music at SXSW 2012
UK Music organisations including AIM and Government body UKTI work together as the British Music Partnership, to promote the British Music Industry internationally. We strive to promote both the individual and the industry as a whole across all genres of music.
At SXSW, the partnership works with regional government / music agencies like Belfast City Council, Creative Scotland, Welsh Music Foundation, Generator and Timeless Music Project/ Plugged in Yorkshire and private sector organisations such as Liverpool Sound City (representing the North West) to present a strong and unified representation of the UK music scene and the depth and breadth of the UK’s creativity, innovation and professionalism.
As usual we have a host of activities going on. Designed to add value to your attendance at SXSW, they include additional marketing and promotion of the British contingent, business networking opportunities, and showcases. Our activity at SXSW is described by the event organisers as the “gold standard” of national promotion.
British Stand (12th-15th March)
This serves as an enquiry point for all things “UK” focusing particularly on business issues/meetings. Our British brochure and the regional marketing materials will all be available from here. Information about all the British events will be issued from the stand and if you want to find out about those events you will be sure to find one of our representatives there throughout the opening hours. This is a useful place for meetings so you are free, and encouraged, to use it for this purpose.
For 2012, we are planning an extensive programme of networking activities with the opportunity to connect with digital distributors, web services and other industry representatives from other markets including US, Australia, Canada, the Nordics and Germany. Recruitment for these activities will begin in January.
The British Music Embassy (13th-17th March)
To find out more about the daytime events at the British Music Embassy visit http://www.facebook.com/britishmusicembassy
To rsvp for these events visit http://www.britishguestlist.info/
With the wealth of talent visiting SXSW from the UK, we are in serious danger of running out of available time and space to showcase it.
This dilemma brought about the British Embassy initiative. The British Music Embassy, based at Latitude 30 on San Jacinto Blvd, hosts all the key UK music events including regional parties. Latitude 30 will effectively become a little piece of the UK, our Embassy and headquarters for the ‘live/showcase side of UK Music in Austin’, for the duration of the event and will be a site for promoting the British contingent. With posters, flyers, brochures, party passes, the works, the British Embassy will be “flying the flag” for the UK – literally.
British Music at SXSW Brochure
Each year we produce a brochure that promotes the UK contingent specifically, listing British delegates & showcases, with articles on the UK music scene and information on the attending industry organisations and sponsors. We also include any information about other UK hosted events such as the media showcases.
