07/08/2006 Independent Music Magazine Goes Monthly

AIM is pleased to announce that Independent Music, The Independent's quarterly music magazine in association with AIM, is to be published monthly from August. The decision follows two incredibly successful issues, highlighting the music, mindset and vitality of the UK's independent labels and artists.

The magazine marks the first time the UK independent music sector has been the sole focus of a mass market magazine, and it is has been warmly embraced by music fans across the country. The venture, which some considered to be a bit of a gamble for The Independent, has proved to be solid commercial sense for the newspaper, with advertising space selling out quickly and fantastic feedback from readers.

The move to monthly publication is great news for independent labels, who will benefit from more reviews and features, and a magazine that fits better with their release schedules. The reviews section is also being expanded, to allow more coverage for small labels who might only release vinyl or the occasional album, so will provide a great opportunity for these labels to present their music to a national audience. 300,000 copies will be distributed both with the newspaper and at retail.
