19/02/2007 Independent Sessions Showcase Night Highlights Talent and Creativity in Independent Music

In an old AIM AGM brochure, founding member Richard Russell of XL Recordings says, “In helping independent labels, AIM helps great music to flourish”. Following its own fine tradition AIM, in association with eMusic, delivered the first Independent Sessions night last month, an opportunity for two AIM labels to showcase a selection of their finest acts to a diverse and enthusiastic crowd of over 400 music fans, industry and press.

Boutique label Peacefrog Records and quixotic label PIAS/Wall of Sound provided the entertainment on 19th February at The Cobden Club in London. Amp Fiddler (PIAS/Wall of Sound) raised the roof with a headline set from his forthcoming album, and performances from Klima (Peacefrog), The Girls (PIAS/Wall of Sound) and Findlay Brown (Peacefrog) demonstrated the passion and creativity of the independent sector at its finest.

It was also a great networking opportunity for labels, wider music industry and the media - including the BBC, The Independent, eMusic and other key organisations. In the weeks since the event, feedback received by AIM and both labels has been enthusiastic, suggesting events like this are essential in providing opportunities for the creative talent signed to independent labels in the UK. Initially held as a stand-alone event, AIM is now looking at options for developing the night into a regular fixture.
